Now Loading…Thoughts on Mass Effect Andromeda Reception

With Mass Effect being one of the most critically and commercially successful new IPs launched last gen, it’s understandable that EA would want to continue BioWare’s sci-fi RPG this generation. Given how successful the original trilogy was (Metacritic: ME1 at 85, ME2 at 94 and ME3 at 93), safe to say, fans were expecting a certain kind of quality that’s usually associated with BioWare’s RPGs. Unfortunately, Mass Effect Andromeda seems to have stumbled a bit out of the gate critically (currently averaging a 75 on Metacritic), which is surprising given its five-year development cycle and excellent pedigree. Related Reading: Is it a case of a new studio (BioWare Montreal) faltering under its first AAA game? Internal politics as some have reported? Rushed and unrealistic deadline for release? We don’t know for sure just now, but what we do know is how we feel about it. Check out the gallery below to see what the PlayStation LifeStyle crew thinks of the Mass Effect Andromeda reception and whether we think the franchise will — or need to — be put on hibernation for a while. Agree with what the staff thinks? Why do you think Mass Effect Andromeda failed to live up to the hype READ…

Korix Coming to PSVR Later This Month

Chalk another game up for the PlayStation VR. It’s not a walking simulator or anything like that, but an RTS (real-time strategy)/tower defense VR game by the name of Korix. If you’re not familiar with Korix, StellarVR Founder Mark Taylor explains what his game is and what people should expect come March 28. Hello, my name’s Mark Taylor and I’m the developer of Korix. Korix has been a real labor of love over the past year with my sole goal being to release a game with old-school gameplay reminiscent of RTS’s from the late 90’s on PS VR. I’m so excited to see Korix released and more importantly, I finally get to play with you! Korix places you deep in space, fighting for your race’s survival after your homeworld is destroyed. With nothing left to lose, you’re put in the role of commander with the sole mission of taking the fight back to the enemy. Build up your defenses, capture resources, and construct your own army to exact revenge. Korix will have both a single-player and multiplayer (2-4 players in co-op or versus) portion, and has been optimized to run at 120fps (frames-per-second) on the PS4 and READ FULL STORY…

Watch the First 35 Minutes of Prey Right Here, Right Now

[embedded content] In case seeing what you’ll be going up against in Prey wasn’t enough in yesterday’s trailer, Bethesda has given everyone a look at the action game’s first 35 minutes. Needless to say, if you don’t want anything at all spoiled for you, or just want everything to be fresh when you boot the game up, then don’t want the video above. While there are a few story elements shown, it’s not anything major (understandably) that’ll spoil the game completely. It all starts with Morgan’s first day on the job. Then comes the creeping suspicion that things may not be what they appear. Then all hell breaks loose. Morgan Yu’s world comes crashing down in the first half-hour of Prey and we’ve got the full intro to the game right here. You find yourself trapped in space, being hunted by an enemy you don’t understand, and missing significant chunks of your memory. Before you get your hands on your powerful alien abilities – hell, before you even get your hands on a weapon – your life is in danger. You’ll need to use your wits and follow the mysterious January’s instructions if you want to survive the opening moments…

Battlefield 1: DICE Has “Something Up Their Sleeves for Non-DLC Buyers in Terms of Matchmaking

While developer DICE is almost always commended by players in terms of how much content there is in every Battlefield expansion, one issue that the developer hasn’t addressed all that well is fragmenting the player base from those who have the DLC, and those who don’t. With Battlefield 1 getting its first (of multiple) expansion, They Shall Not Pass, which is available for Battlefield 1 Premium members, this concern won’t be going away anytime soon. During our Battlefield 1 They Shall Not Pass hands-on preview at EA’s studio, we voiced to DICE Art Director Johannes Fors this very concern, and he mentioned that the studio is working on something. PSLS: How are you going to differentiate between players who have the DLC and those who don’t when it comes to matchmaking? Johannes Fors: I can’t go into detail, but we have something up our sleeves. We are listening to the community and we know they’re concerned, so that’s why we addressed this issue. There will be something announced soon. Of course, this “something” could very well be this little nugget where DICE mentions that all players are required to download the update since it will have “several benefits” READ FULL STORY…

Confirmed PS4 Games Out in Q2 2017

[embedded content] In what feels like a blink of an eye, we’re already set to say goodbye to the first quarter of 2017. While Q1 2017 has been amazing for PlayStation 4 owners, there’s a whole lot more to get excited for in the months ahead. Same as our Q1 2017 list, we only included games that have definite and confirmed Q2 2017 release dates. Needless to say, we can’t account for sudden delays and such. But as of today, March 17, 2017, this list is accurate. In case you don’t want to watch the video and brief snippets of gameplay and screenshots, you can check the entire list out in the gallery below. While we double checked our list, there’s a chance we might have missed a game or two. If so, well, don’t hate us that much, alright? While Q2 2017 is (arguably) weaker compared to Q1 2017 in terms of AAA titles and exclusives, there’s still a lot of heavy hitters set to release in the coming months that will make your wallets and bank accounts tear up a little. Did we miss a game in our list? Which ones will you be getting this quarter? Share…

Shenmue III Development Update Video Released

[embedded content] While everyone was blown out of their seats when Sony surprisingly announced Shenmue III at the company’s E3 2015 press conference, there hasn’t been a lot of stuff to report on the game itself after the initial reveal. Fortunately, developer Ys Net agrees and has released a Shenmue III “Development Report” video that not only shows the game being developed, but there’s some quick-time event (QTE) action as well. Oh, and Yu Suzuki makes an appearance, too. In the video, Ys Net apologizes for the infrequent updates, and states that the studio will do their best to provide monthly updates. Here’s the complete message from Ys Net: Dev Room Progress Report Vol. 2 Greetings Everyone, It has been a long time since our last update, and we are painfully aware you all have been eagerly awaiting the monthly report. All of us here have been so wrapped up in the development process that time seems to have flown by… But no excuses! We apologize for the lapse and will do our best to bring you updates every month. It is beholden on us to keep you informed (without giving too much away of course!) and READ FULL STORY AT…

Now Loading… What Motivates You to Finish Games?

While a lot of people here on PlayStation LifeStyle are fortunate enough to actually be paid to finish games, that doesn’t mean it’s super cushy job. And by “finishing,” I don’t mean getting the Platinum, but just actually getting to the very end. For every Chandler Wood that gets all the Trophies from a single game, there’s someone like, well, me, that has a hard time finishing every game that lands on their console. Why? It depends on the individual, but for this Now Loading, I asked the PSLS crew to chime in and share what motivates them to finish games. Curious? I know you are! Check our responses below. What’s your motivation for finishing video games? Is it because you spent money on it? Just pure joy at getting through to the end? Share your thoughts in the comments below and let’s get this discussion going! Got a Now Loading suggestion? Let us know via email or in the comments and it might be featured in the next Now Loading. Now Loading is a recurring staff-driven feature where PlayStation LifeStyle discusses anything video game-related under the sun (yes, even non-Sony platforms). Somebody Finished Titanfall 2’s Gauntlet in 27 Seconds Doing It Backwards!

If you’ve played Titanfall 2’s single-player portion, then you most likely did a few runs in the campaign’s “The Gauntlet” time trial course. Trophy hunters undoubtedly spent a few hours trying the course just to get a time of less than 33.65 seconds in order to nab that “Become a Master” Trophy. While I’ve seen a lot of people finish The Gauntlet in 30 seconds or less, someone just finished it in less than 30 seconds and did it backwards! Check out the two videos below where YouTuber Thoreaufare runs through the timed course backwards and manage to do a dang good job of it, even. And to think, I gave up on reaching the top three after a few tries. For more on Titanfall 2, check out the latest free content update right here. Or if you’ve already read about that, check out the reported DLC rollout plan for TF2 which was mined from the game’s code. Rock Band 4 Getting “Danger Zone” Along With a Special Guest Singer

[embedded content] Are you old enough to remember Tom Cruise’s Top Gun? If so, then you also probably know the film’s most famous track — Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone.” As you can see from the title, it’s headed to Rock Band 4! Check out the trailer above and you’re in for a awesome surprise. For those not familiar with Top Gun, then you might remember Danger Zone from another TV show, and that’s Archer. Prepare to be dazzled as special agent Sterling Archer is rocking it in the Danger Zone in Rock Band 4! Here’s how this thing transpired according to Rock Band Product Manager Daniel Sussman: When we received word that the Kenny Loggins mega-hit was coming to the Rock Band DLC Music Library, our thoughts immediately went to Archer. We’re big fans of the show. In fact, you could say that we like Archer as much as Archer likes, well, “Danger Zone”. So we reached out to the good folks at FXX and Floyd County Productions to see if they’d like to do something special for Rock Band and Archer fans and they jumped at the chance. An Archer cameo in Rock Band was happening. Also READ FULL…
