Gravity Rush 2 – Everything You Need to Know

Few titles understood the PlayStation Vita quite like Gravity Rush. Japan Studio’s mind-bending adventure game was released at a time when players were still getting to grips with Sony’s flagship handheld — the gyroscope, the accelerometer, that damned rear touchpad — but by embracing said quirks, Gravity Rush became an early showcase of Vita’s capabilities, and it’s fair to say that the PlayStation faithful quickly took a shine to Kat and her astral feline, Dusty. Sony wasted no time in announcing a sequel, but it was only after the PS4 launch of Gravity Rush Remastered that the platform-holder confirmed Gravity Rush 2 to be real. There is one small caveat to the follow-up: Kat and Dusty have officially left PS Vita behind in favor of the PlayStation 4. Creating Gravity Rush 2 solely for PS4 allowed for a bigger and more ambitious title, it seems, and Sony’s own Shuhei Yoshida believes fans will understand exactly why Japan Studio skipped PS Vita come release. And so, in anticipation of its PS4 launch on January 20 (January 18 for those in Europe), we’ve scoured the four corners of the Internet — and the PSLS archives — to compile Everything You Need to…

Watch the Live Action Gravity Rush 2 Trailer

[embedded content] 2017 is shaping up to be a year filled with live action trailers for games starring adorable cats, and you won’t find any complaints about that here. Following in the footsteps of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Sony has put out a new live action video promoting Gravity Rush 2. The four minute video (which you can watch embedded above) shows a student working on her graduation thesis (dealing with none other than Newton’s Law of Gravity), and dealing with a rather mischievous kitten. PlayStation LifeStyle recently reviewed the first major PlayStation 4 exclusive of 2017, and the game received a positive critique. Here’s what our own Keri Honea had to say about the gravity bending platformer: Gravity Rush 2 lacks quite a bit in the story department, even with the side missions, but the improved combat and series-unique exploration make it difficult to put the game down. Even when Kat’s flailings are incredibly annoying and detrimental, and even with the awful stealth missions, it’s even more difficult to not have fun this adventure. Previous experience isn’t required either, as Kat basically has to learn everything all over from the beginning anyway. If Gravity Rush was always a game you meant to get…

Looking Forward to Sony’s 2017 Published Games

PlayStation LifeStyle recently took a look at Sony’s 2016 published games, so it only made sense to look into the future. After all, the only thing more exciting than the games PlayStation 4 owners can already play are the ones that are still being worked on. So, check out what Sony 2017 games are currently set for release. Just a note: several of Sony’s upcoming games don’t have any sort of release date at all attached to them. That meant that games like Dreams, Farpoint, Detroit: Become Human, and Matterfall were left off the list. Those very well could end up being 2017 releases, but Sony isn’t ready to date them. Check out the full list of Sony 2017 games below: Currently the 13 games can be broken down into three categories: original games, sequels, and remasters. There are currently three original games set to release in 2017 (although that can certainly change): Nioh, Drawn to Death, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Meanwhile, there are four remastered titles and six sequels. It’s also worth noting that more games will almost definitely be announced as the year goes on. This is only a taste of what 2017 will have to offer, but huge releases are typically known for a…

Gravity Rush 2 Runs at a Near Constant 30fps on Both PS4 & PS4 Pro, Video Analysis Shows

[embedded content] Gravity Rush 2 isn’t releasing until next week, but Digital Foundry has already taken a look at the upcoming title, measuring the frame-rate and comparing the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro versions (beginning at 0:52). In terms of performance, Gravity Rush 2 runs at a near constant 30fps on both PS4 systems. You will notice minor dips at rare moments when there’s lots of dust, smoke, and other objects on-screen, but it never goes below 27fps. All in all, Digital Foundry says, “The majority of the experience is a completely locked 30 frames-per-second on both consoles” and the game suffers from “no noticeable performance or visual flaws.” With the resolution, regular PS4 owners will find a native 1080p. On PS4 Pro, it runs at a full 2160p on a 4K screen and 1080p on a 1080p screen with downsampling, resulting in cleaner edges and finer distant detail. Although Gravity Rush 2 is at 2160p on PS4 Pro, Digital Foundry adds: Closed pixel counts suggest a full 2160p here, but when looking at the scene as a whole, it doesn’t look as clean as a native 4K image would actually suggest. Essentially, it looks more as if the geometry pass is handled entirely at a native READ…

Gravity Rush 2 Review – Impossible to Put Down (PS4)

Gravity Rush was one of the premier PlayStation Vita exclusives and happened to be rather groundbreaking for the time. The next chapter in Kat’s story is here, and it sadly will not drop on to the Vita. The series has gravitated toward the PS4, and it fits on the big screen quite well. The screen-size isn’t the only element to Gravity Rush 2 that was enlarged; the game maps, side missions, and overall scope grew as well. With so much packed in to this sequel, the developer risks overcompensating for any past issues. Then again, devs are often damned if they don’t change enough or damned if they change too much. Question is, however, with all of these adjustments, does Gravity Rush 2 soar to the sky or plummet like a rock? New People to Save, Same Gravity Problems Kat may have saved Hekseville from their plight during the gravity storms, but these storms aren’t done with Kat and her friends yet. A gravity storm sucks up Kat, Syd, Dusty, and Raven and deposits them on the other side of the world. Kat and Syd wake up in Banga, a floating mining village. If they want to stay with the miners, READ…
