These Are the Games You Should Be Checking Out in January

January 2017 is here which means that it’s time to look forward to a new crop of fresh games! Typically, January is a slow month for new game releases. However, this year will offer gamers a good selection of titles to try out, especially if they are fans of Japanese games. Even though there aren’t a lot of titles dropping this month, there is still a decent amount of variety to be found. [embedded content] Resident Evil 7 Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PCRelease date: January 20 Easily the most high-profile release of January, Capcom’s popular zombie-slaying franchise is reborn as a modern first person horror game. After Resident Evil 4 completely changed the familiar formula of the first three games, the series had grown stale. Now, Resident Evil 7 is aiming to reinvigorate the franchise in much the same way. Considering how Resident Evil had lost its way over the years, this hard reset is not only welcome but necessary. On top of reanimating and updating the classic survival horror franchise, Resident Evil 7 may serve as the last hope for mainstream virtual reality gaming. Its position of being the first full-length AAA VR experience could bring in a…

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: PS4 Pro 4K Support Confirmed; Nomura Talks Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake

Yesterday a rumor on the PS4 Pro support for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue appeared, based on an alleged interview with Tetsuya Nomura on a leaked copy of Dengeki PlayStation. Today DualShockers acquired the actual magazine to verify its authenticity. In the interview, Nomura-san is asked explicitly about PS4 Pro support for the game, and his answer confirms 4K resolution, while there is no mention on whether it’s native or upscaled. Since it will support 4K, the image quality will definitely be beautiful. Further details about how it’ll support it will be announced later. In the same interview, Nomura-san also talks about Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Due to the launch of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, the timing for the announcement of new information on Kingdom Hearts III is currently under consideration, and Nomura-san hopes fans will be patient. He has also been thinking a lot on the planning for the 15th anniversary of the series. Starting with 2.8 in January and the World Tour concerts beginning in March, he feels that information on Kingdom Hearts will come at a consistent pace again next year. Nomura-san also talked about the Final Fantasy VII Remake, mentioning that the battle system has…

Rumor: Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Runs in 4K on PS4 Pro

Every week the content of Japanese magazine (Famitsu and Dengeki PlayStation) are basically the worst kept secret in all of Japan, as they tend to leark about two days early. Twitter user , who certainly isn’t new to providing Kingdom Hearts information, mentioned that an interview with Director Tetsuya Nomura reveals that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will support 4K resolution (although there are no info on whether it’s upscaled or native) on PS4 Pro. While this kind of leaks should be considered a rumor for the moment, we’ll most probably get confirmation tomorrow at midnight Japan time. Considering that 2.8 isn’t exactly a visual miracle, the information is definitely not farfetched.

Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage Hands-on Preview – Return of the King…dom Hearts (PS4)

Aqua was just minding her own business and thinking about where to get a good donut after all this Heartless business was settled, when suddenly time jumped forward five hours. The road out of town was also suddenly destroyed, and it soon became clear that Aqua’s goal was to turn back time in order to remake the road and get the hell out of Dodge. My job in the Tokyo Game Show demo of Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – a Fragmentary Passage (whew) was to take Aqua around the shattered remains of a town, platforming when necessary and otherwise defeating Heartless in action RPG combat, then striking clock gears to wind back the clock and rebuild one section of the road at a time. …That is to say, my job was to, you know, play Kingdom Hearts. (Forgive me if this town is an actual Kingdom Hearts town that I can’t put my finger on. The aesthetic felt very Traverse Town-ish, but it wasn’t. I feel like it was new, but no one at Square Enix had any idea, when I asked, because that’s how helpful any given company’s own employees are at TGS. Update: I’ve been told it’s…
