Popular GTA V Modding Tool OpenIV Is Once Again Being Distributed

OpenIV, the popular modding tool for games like Grand Theft Auto V, appears to be getting back to business as usual weeks after it was shutdown due to a cease and desist letter issued by Take-Two, GTA’s publisher. Over the weekend, a download button for the software returned to OpenIV’s website. While it included mostly small bug fixes, its existence appeared to indicate that OpenIV would continue to live on. And a statement put out by Rockstar on the same day as the update went out implied some sort of understanding had been reached with its parent company, Take-Two, that would allow OpenIV to come back to life: “After discussions with Take-Two, Take-Two has agreed that it generally will not take legal action against third-party projects involving Rockstar’s PC…

Popular GTA V Modding Tool Shuts Down, Community Explodes

They claim they have received a cease and desist from Take-Two Interactive after nearly 10 years of operation. The news comes as a shock to the PC Grand Theft Auto community, who use OpenIV to add thousands of mods into GTA V. OpenIV, a super popular modding tool used by tons of GTA V fans, had a multitude of uses. Some players used OpenIV to make machinima videos that aren’t possible using the in-game video editor. Others used OpenIV to add new vehicles, weapons and features to GTA V. And for those who hunt for mysteries and secrets in GTA V, OpenIV allows them to dig deeper and poke around in the game in ways Rockstar never intended. According to a post on the official OpenIV website, the alleged cease and desist came on June 5th 2017. The supposed problem, OpenIV’s creators say, is that the program allows “third parties to defeat security features of its software and modify that software in violation Take-Two’s rights.” After discussing their options, the team behind the tool says they decided READ FULL STORY…

Take-Two CEO Says The Company Is “Undermonetizing” Its Users

Speaking at the Cowen and Company 45th Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference today, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick talked about, among other things, microtransactions and said that while microtransactions are important to the company, they aren’t trying to nickel-and-dime players. You can’t give stuff away for free in perpetuity; there’s no business model in that. But we’re not trying to optimise the monetiziation of everything we do to the nth degree. My concern is, if you do that, the consumer knows. They might not even know that they know, but they feel it. Think about it anecdotally–when you paid a little too much for something, even if it was something really good, it really irks you. Paying too much for something bad is even worse. Paying too much for something really good, even if you can afford it, just leaves you with a bad feeling. We don’t want our consumers to ever feel that way. Zelnick continued to say that the company was intentionally “undermonetizing” it’s users. We are convinced that we are probably from an industry view undermonetizing on a per-user basis. There is wood to chop because I think we can do more, and READ FULL STORY AT…

Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing for NBA 2K, added: It’s obvious that Kyrie isn’t disappearing from the spotlight anytime soon, so we’re thrilled to have him as our cover athlete, alongside Shaq for the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition. Game 1 of the NBA Finals is tonight, and a simulation by NBA 2K17 says the Warriors will defeat the Cavaliers in seven games. 2K adds that NBA 2K17 has sold nearly nine million copies, and it’s “currently the highest-rated and highest-revenue generating sports title in North America.” NBA 2K18 will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation READ FULL STORY AT PLAYSTATIONLIFESTYLE!

GTA Online Gets the “Massive” Gunrunning Update in June

Calling it a “massive new update” where the Southern San Andreas’ illegal weapons trafficking industry rises to the surface, Rockstar Games has announced that the Gunrunning update for Grand Theft Auto Online will arrive in June. Take-Two CEO: Red Dead Redemption 2’s Launch Window Doesn’t Really Matter

During Take-Two’s recent earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked if he thought there was something about Red Dead Redemption 2 that would make it better for a summer launch versus a winter one. In response, Zelnick said he doesn’t think it really matters when Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out, as people consume entertainment year-round: For a title like this, I don’t think the launch window really matters. And obviously, Red Dead Redemption went out in May and was an extraordinarily successful title. Consumers are consuming entertainment year round. Now they don’t stop in the summer months. And we believe that if you give people an extraordinary experience, they will show up for it. Zelnick also addressed the decision to delay Red Dead Redemption 2 from fall 2017 to spring 2018, which he says was due to ensuring it was the best experience possible, and not because there have been issues during development: I think the purpose of the delay for Red Dead Redemption 2 is to make sure that we deliver the most extraordinary experience we’re capable of providing. We haven’t gone into particular issues. We are building a new game from the ground up for the first time for new READ FULL STORY AT…
